Fire Protection Paint

Fire Protection paint is a coating that reacts to high temperatures by expanding to form an insulating char layer. The spongy barrier protects the underlying surface from fire damage, slows the spread of flames and inhibits ignition – allowing more time for evacuation and emergency response.

FIRECOAT is easy to apply with conventional brushes, sprays and rollers. No expensive equipment or highly trained applicators are needed – unlike existing intumescent paints, which could only be applied by trained personnel with appropriate equipment.

FIRECOAT exterior is a tough, durable, water-based primer paint that provides built structures with protection against fire. An intumescent coating, It is the only paint in the world rated to WAL-40 for extreme fire protection, making it ideal for areas prone to wildfires. Light gray in color, it is suitable for both interior and exterior applications and delivers a slightly textured finish.

FIRECOAT Exterior is suitable for both interior and exterior surfaces, including natural and composite brick, concrete, fibre cement, masonry, structural steel and timber (Carboline 635 primer is required for use on structural steel to achieve FRL 60/-/-). It can be used with or without compatible topcoats. Please note that the final finish will appear slightly textured due to the intumescent properties of the product. FIRECOAT Exterior is not suitable for use on deck floors and stairways.

FIRECOAT Interior fire protection paint is suitable for interior like natural timber, MDF, plywood and plasterboard. It can be applied on top of existing paint if the surface is clean, dry and not flaking. Before application, make sure that all surfaces are thoroughly clean, dry and free of contaminants such as dust, oil, wax, grease, dirt and resin and any loose or flaking paint. Any existing coatings with poor adhesion must be completely removed. Surfaces should be completely dry prior to the application.

Coating and Thickness Coverage

To achieve the desired level of fire protection, it’s essential that the fully dried coating achieves the minimum dry film thickness (DFT). The easiest way to do this is by measuring the wet film thickness (WFT) immediately after application.

All Los Angeles Painting Company, Inc. is a skilled applicator of FIRECOAT paints. FIRECOAT is available at ACE Hardware Stores.
