Located two miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles is one of Los Angeles’ first suburbs — Angelino Heights. In the late 1800’s, the area was an upper middle class neighborhood. Pictured here is a Sherwin Williams Angelino Heights color inspiration palette.

Angelino Heights has some of the best remaining examples of Victorian era architecture in Los Angeles, in addition to later examples of Craftsman and Mission Revival styles. Its most famous street, the 1300 block of Carroll Avenue is listed on the National Register and has the highest concentration of 19th century Victorian homes in Los Angeles.

Many of Carroll Avenue’s homes are original, but the street also has some later additions that were relocated from other parts of the city. There are also Queen Anne style residences, plus you can also see Pre-Victorians in addition to Craftsman bungalows. A few hitching posts and raised platforms remain as reminders of horse drawn wagon days.

Most homes in the Angelino Heights have been lovingly maintained and sport dramatic color combinations.
