Colors for Spanish Style Homes

This vintage Pacific Panorama paint palette is from a 1982 True Value color chart. It presents colors for Spanish style homes inspired by Southern California’s ubiquitous bird of paradise plant. The aptly named flower is found in abundance along the West Coast even though it’s native to South Africa. Its exotic colors convey the natural beauty found around Southern California. These colors have a nostalgic, late 1970’s – early 1980’s vibe.

The first settlers were Spanish, and they established the hacienda style of architecture. For a traditional Los Angeles Spanish style interior design scheme, use Mission White, the color of white-washed adobe. Choose Lemon and Sunrise Orange to bring sunshine into north or shaded rooms. For sunny rooms, choose the deeper Green Gold, or Grape. Use Clear Sky for its cooling effect and its illusion of more space.
