Leaks can waste more water on a daily basis than a lawn sprinkler system uses. Fixing leaks not only saves water, it saves money on your water bill. A good home management checklist will include a checkbox for Interior Water Conservation & Leak Detection.
If your water bill is higher than usual, you may have a leak. Finding the leak is usually easy. Start your search in a bathroom; it could be a leaking toilet. A leaking toilet wastes 200 gallons of water every day. Listen for the faint sound of running water in the toilet tank. If you hear something, its probably a leak. One hack to find out if your toilet is leaking, is putting dye tablets in your toilet tank and waiting 10-15 minutes to see if there’s color in the bowl. You can also test with a few drops of food coloring.
Additionally, check all the water faucets in house like: the shower, bathroom basin, under the basin water supply lines, kitchen sink faucets, and faucet supply lines, and ice cube maker lines for leaks. Pictured here are additional tips for conserving water.
